BumbleB Crunch Desktop
Ask about the data on your computer.
The desktop app for your Mac, now in Preview; Windows and Linux are coming. It is BumbleB Crunch™ as you know it on the web, plus This laptop: your Postgres and MongoDB databases and your CSV and Parquet files, read where they live. Nothing to upload, no pipeline to build.
How it works
Three steps to your first answer
1
Download and sign in
Install the app and sign in with your BumbleB Crunch account. Sign-in opens in your browser, once.
2
Add a connection
Under This laptop, connect a Postgres database, MongoDB, or CSV and Parquet files. The app asks you to confirm each new connection, then you tick the tables a conversation may read.
3
Ask
Pick your tables in a conversation and ask in plain words. You get the answer, with how BumbleB Crunch read your question and how each figure was counted.
Your data, on your computer
It stays where it is
The app reads your data in place, read-only, and keeps a log of every query. You decide which tables a conversation can see.
Read where it lives
Your tables are never copied to your BumbleB Crunch workspace or to ours. Crunch sees the names, columns and size of the tables you pick, and reads the rows its queries return.
Reads only
Every query is checked to be one read-only statement, and Postgres is attached read-only. Connect with a database role that sees only what you want analysed.
Every query logged
Each query Crunch runs is listed with its SQL, its row count and how long it took.
Approve each query, if you like
Turn on Approve each query and nothing runs on your computer until you say so.
Secrets stay with you
Connections, passwords and connection strings stay on your computer, and so do the results a conversation keeps โ deleted after 30 days unused, or when you delete them.
Conversations you can reopen
Your questions and the answers are saved to your BumbleB Crunch account, so you can pick a conversation up again.
Made for a desktop
One app, everything in it
Your cloud data too
The same app as on the web: your workspace datasets, sheets, dashboards and published stories sit next to This laptop, under one sign-in.
Approvals as notifications
With Approve each query on, each query BumbleB Crunch asks to run arrives as a notification you can run or turn down.
Runs quietly in the background
Close the window and the app keeps working from the menu bar or system tray. Start it at login, or quit it from there.
Data on your computer is only read on that computer. Conversations that use it are marked local; open one in a browser or on a phone and it asks you to continue on that computer. Prefer your editor? BumbleB Acorn for VS Code reads the same sources.
