Before Crunch accepts any data from your website or store, it needs to know the site is really yours. You prove that by adding one small record to your domain’s settings — the same kind of check Google and most email tools use. Once it’s done, events sent under your connector from anywhere else are rejected — so data can only arrive under your connector from a site you control.
Until a domain verifies, a website or Shopify connector accepts no events at all — they’re turned away rather than stored. It’s worth doing this first.
What you’ll need
- A website or Shopify connector, created on the Connectors page.
- Access to your domain registrar — the company you bought your domain from, or wherever your domain’s DNS is managed. DNS is the internet’s address book; a DNS record is one entry in it.
Step by step
In the hub, open Domains.
Under your connector, enter your root domain — for example
example.com— and click Add Domain. You don’t need to add subdomains such aswww.andshop.; they’re covered automatically.At your domain registrar, publish the record Crunch shows you. It’s a TXT record — a plain-text note attached to your domain:
- Type:
TXT - Host:
_bumbleb-verify.example.com— some registrars want only_bumbleb-verifyhere. - Value: the
bb-verify=…value shown in the hub. Use Copy so you get it exactly right.
Any other TXT records at that host can stay where they are.
- Type:
Back in the hub, click Check again.
“Not found yet”
Seeing this right after you publish the record is normal. DNS changes usually take a few minutes and can take several hours to reach everywhere. Wait a while, then click Check again.
If it still fails, the message tells you which of these happened:
- no record was found — check the record is published, and that the host is right for your registrar (with or without your domain on the end);
- a record was found that doesn’t match — compare the value with the one in the hub; using Copy avoids typos;
- the lookup timed out — wait, then Check again.
How to tell it worked
When the domain verifies:
- the badge shows Verified;
- the connector becomes Active and starts receiving data;
- your account gets a one-time credit for the domain — see Credits.
Good to know
- Verify the root domain only.
example.comcoverswww.example.comandshop.example.com. - Your existing TXT records are safe. Adding this one doesn’t mean removing others at the same host.
