Connectors in the hub

Create the connectors that send your data to Crunch, and check they're working.

Crunch can only answer questions about data it receives. A connector is the link that sends that data in — from your website, your Shopify store or a database in your own network. The Connectors page in the hub is where you create one and, later, where you check it’s healthy if the numbers ever look off.

What you’ll need

  • Access to the hub — see Roles for who can set up connectors.
  • For a website or Shopify store, a domain you can verify. Connectors for those two sources need a verified domain before they work.
  • For an on-prem database, a Team plan — see pricing.

Step by step

  1. In the hub, open Connectors.
  2. Click + Create connector.
  3. Choose the source that matches where your data lives:
    • Google Tag Manager — for your website or web app. Set it up.
    • Shopify — for your store. Set it up.
    • On-prem database (Team) — a container (a small packaged program) that runs in your own network. Set it up.
  4. Follow the setup guide for that source, linked above and on the connector’s card.

How to tell it worked

Each connector has a card. Its status reads either:

  • Awaiting domain verification — the connector exists, but its domain hasn’t been verified yet; see Verifying your domain. Events sent before then are refused and not kept, so you can install the tag or pixel early, but data starts only once a domain verifies.
  • Active — the connector is ready. For a website or Shopify connector, this is the point where it starts receiving data.

The card also shows:

  • the connector’s setup guide;
  • its API keys — the secret codes that identify your connector — with Last used, so you can see when each key last did anything (website and Shopify connectors);
  • its Verified Domains, with a link to manage them (website and Shopify connectors);
  • Pipeline Status — any errors, grouped by stage, with what to do about each.

Tip: If your numbers look thin or stop updating, look at Pipeline Status first. It tells you where things went wrong and what to do about it.

Good to know

  • Use one connector per GTM container. A GTM container is the bundle of tags Google Tag Manager runs on your site.
  • Website and Shopify connectors need a verified domain. Do that early — see Verifying your domain.
