Some questions need a quick, direct answer: how many signups did we get last week? Others need an analyst who stops to ask why: why did enquiries from Android fall, and what would you do about it? The level you pick sets how far BumbleB Crunch™ goes on your question, so you can keep the quick level for everyday asks and go further when the answer matters.
Every level counts correctly. A Fast answer is not a rough draft of a Deep one. A deeper level adds to the answer: it looks for causes, says what it checked, and takes longer and uses more of your credits (credits are how your plan measures usage).
What you’ll need
- Nothing to switch on. Every plan currently includes Fast; your plan decides whether Deep and Expert are included too. See pricing for what your plan includes.
The levels
- Fast is an analyst: quick, direct answers. It gives you the answer and its figures, the one thing most worth your attention, what the figures mean for you, how each figure was counted, and how sure it is.
- Deep is a senior analyst. On top of everything Fast gives you, it says why it is so (the cause the data supports, or that the cause wasn’t tested) and what it checked and ruled out. It may take one more look at your data when a result raises a question that bears on your decision. When it proposes a plan of several steps, it waits for you to say go.
- Expert is a senior specialist for complex problems. On top of everything Deep gives you, it compares what it found with what is normal for this kind of business, and says what you could do about it and what that would change. It can take up to two more looks at your data, and uses the most credits.
- Auto picks the level each question needs. A question that asks why something happened, or asks you to decide between options, runs at Deep, and so does a message with three or more asks. Everything else runs at Fast. Auto never picks Expert, and it only picks levels your plan includes.
Pick a level
- Find the Analyst level button — the gauge in the message box. Hover over it to see the level your next message will use, for example Auto — Picks the level each question needs.
- Click it and choose Auto, Fast, Deep or Expert. A level your plan doesn’t include is greyed out and says Not in your plan.
- Send your question. The level stays picked for the rest of this conversation until you change it.
A new conversation starts on your plan’s default level, which is Auto unless your plan sets another one.
Tip: If you’re not sure, leave it on Auto. It saves Deep for the questions that need it.
Who the answer is written for
The same figures can be told three ways. Under the levels in the same menu, pick who will read the answer:
- For Leadership — the answer, plain.
- For Team — the answer and its evidence.
- For Data team — everything, with field names exact.
This changes how much of the working shows in the reply, never the work behind it: whatever a reader setting keeps out of the reply is folded under the answer in More detail, so nothing is lost. A question that names no reader is written for leadership, unless your plan sets another default. Your pick is remembered in this browser and carries into new conversations, and you can change it in any conversation.
How to tell which level answered
Under each answer, a small line shows the level that answered and how long it took, for example Fast · 41s or Deep (Auto) · for Team · 1m 52s. (Auto) means Auto picked the level, and for Team names the reader you picked.
Beside your name, a badge shows the highest level your plan includes: Deep or Expert. A plan with Fast only shows no badge.
Good to know
- A level your plan doesn’t include runs at the highest one it does. If Auto would pick Deep but your plan includes only Fast, the question runs at Fast.
- To go deeper on an answer, click Go Deep under it. It appears on the latest answer when it ran at Fast, left part of your question open, and your plan includes Deep. It switches the level to Deep and asks the same question again in the same conversation, so everything you’ve read so far stays in view. You can also pick Deep yourself and ask again.
- Deeper levels take longer. A Deep answer to a long question can take a few minutes. If you need to step away, see Keep an analysis running after you close the tab.
