Plenty of what you’d like to ask about already lives in a file: an orders export, a spend report, a list of listings. Upload it, and it becomes a dataset — a table in your own workspace that Crunch can read and answer questions about. There’s no tag or connector to set up.
What you’ll need
- A file with rows and columns, in
.csv,.tsv,.xlsx,.xlsor.parquet. - The right to upload it. You’ll confirm this when you upload.
Step by step
- In a chat, click the datasets pill (the database icon) in the message box.
- Choose Upload a file….
- Choose or drop the file, tick the box confirming you have the right to upload it, and click Upload.
- Check the preview. It shows the first rows, each column’s name and type, and any issues. For an Excel file, pick the Sheet you want. If the column names aren’t in the first row, set the Header row.
- Choose New dataset and give it a name — lowercase letters, digits and
_, starting with a letter. Or, if this is a fresher copy of something you uploaded before, choose New version of that upload. - Click Load. You can close the dialog while it works; the upload keeps going.
How to tell it worked
When loading is done, the dataset is selected for the conversation, and you can start asking.
Good to know
- Formats:
.csv,.tsv,.xlsx,.xlsand.parquet, with one sheet per upload. A workbook with several sheets means several uploads. - Size: up to 100 MB per file, and up to 300 columns.
- Values are kept as written. Crunch doesn’t guess, so:
- a date that could be day/month or month/day stays text — write dates as
YYYY-MM-DDto avoid this; - numbers with leading zeros, like a ZIP code
02134, stay text, so the zeros aren’t lost; - times without a time zone are read as UTC.
- a date that could be day/month or month/day stays text — write dates as
When you have newer numbers
Upload the fresh export as New version of the same dataset. A conversation keeps reading the data it started with, so ask about the new version in a new conversation.
